Field survey
Andy is able to undertake a wide range of field surveys of invertebrates, birds and vascular plants; indeed being well-suited for assessing the full range of biodiversity on a given site. He is particularly focused on insect survey work however. He has excellent knowledge of the range of habitats across the UK and, whilst based in East Anglia, is available to undertake work anywhere. Andy is happy to work to requested protocols, or can suggest appropriate survey design, as required.
Specimen identification
Andy is able to undertake identification of invertebrate samples collected by others. He is experienced in a range of specimen management techniques and has an extensive reference collection. Throughput (specimens per hour) will vary by group and depend on the level of taxonomic precision required - please contact to discuss in further detail. Where required, he is well-connected with other taxonomic specialists from whom particular advice can be sought.
Reporting, analysis and review
Andy is very experienced in the collation, analysis and assessment of biodiversity data at a range of spatial scales, from the site level to the national scale. He is familiar with the use of Pantheon for the assessment of invertebrate assemblages. Andy has wide experience in producing reports to any required specifications.
Data management
Following years of experience in managing extensive datasets on both a personal level (200K records) and organisational level (200M records), Andy can help advise on approaches to biological data management and can design systems for your needs, as well as undertaking data cleaning and restructuring where needed.
Tours, talks, tuition, engagament
Given his very wide range of expertise Andy is willing and able to undertake a range of engagement activities, from detailed tuition to more recreational wildlife activities. He is an experienced speaker and has run public events such as community moth-trapping. Andy is also available for leading wildlife tours.
